HUGE SUCCESS ON AGA LACIVIC 12TH PDC
The 12th Annual Professional Development Conference of AGA La Civic
Center Chapter held last Nov. 3, 2010 was a huge success. The various

provided the 140 participants vast knowledge on current trends in

AGA LACC CHAPTER TO PARTICIPATE IN
2010 LOS ANGELES HEARTWALK
AGA Los Angeles Civic Center Chapter will participate in the 2010 Los Angeles
Heartwalk event. The 5K Fitness walk is sponsored by the American
Heart Association. The main event is scheduled on October 23, 2010 at

AGA La Civic Center Chapter garnered a Gold Award in the AGA National's
Chapter Recognition Award Program for Fiscal Year 2009-2010.
Then President Victoria A. Santiago received the award from the then
National President Billy Morehead, in behalf of the Chapter. The award
ceremony was held during the 59th Annual PDC held in Orlando, Florida
on July 11-14, 2010. LA Civic Center Chapter also garnered a silver award
in the category of Newsletter publication for same fiscal year.
The award was received by then Newsletter Editor Samitha Wijayaratne.

6 MEMBERS ATTENDED AGA CGFM STUDY
GROUP MEETING
Last July 21, 2010, six AGA LACivic members attended the CGFM study group meeting.
Chairman Tiffany Liaw conducted the meeting. The CGFM exam taking process was
discussed. After reviewing the Governmental Environmental Study Guide, members
were confident and enthusiastic to take the exam. The next meeting is scheduled
on August 4, 2010. Two more members are interested to join the next meeting.
1ST AGA MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL MEETING

The first AGA monthly educational meeting will be held on July 28, 2010 at City Hall Main
Room 1070 at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

FY10-11 OFFICERS HELD ITS STRATEGIC PLANNING
MEETING
Last June 12, 2010, FY 2010-2011 officers and Committe Chairpersons held it strategic
planning session at the residence of President Mario Ignacio. The six hour meeting
mapped the direction of the chapter for the coming fiscal year and what the
President expects to accomplish during his tem. The meeting was very successful
and the officers and chairpersons thanked President Mario and his wife, Jane for

Last March 5, 2010, AGA LA Civic Chapter received a resolution from the City of Los
Angeles Council declaring March as the Certified Government Financial Manager month.

On behalf of the 2010 Conference Host Committee, I thank the
following volunteers who assisted in stuffing the giveaway bags
and the registration desk and serving as room monitors: from the
City of Los Angeles - Amalia Robles, Corazon Soriano, Erlinda Buising,
Jose de Jesus, Juanita Inton, Kanda Law, Linda Granados,
Rizalina Nicasio, Tiffany Liaw, Victoria Reodica, and Victoria Santiago;
from the City of San Jose – Brenda Charles; from the South Bay Regional
Public Communications Authority – Chellette McDonald Harden;
from the City of Agoura Hills – Melinda Brodsley; and from the
City of Redondo Beach – Eleanor Manzano. Last but not the least,
to Jim Walker from the City of Rolling Hills, for proctoring the
GFOA CPFO exams. All these volunteers helped in making
the 2010 Conference a big success!

Carol Quan discussed the 2010 property
tax assessments for Los Angeles county
property owners
Last January 28, 2010, AGA Los Angeles Civic Chapter
held its monthly educational training. The speaker, Carol Quan
of the Los AngelesCounty Assessor's Office talked about
the property tax assessments for Los Angeles county property
owners. She cited the current programs being worked on and
new regulations being instituted by the County.
To celebrate March as the CGFM month, AGA Civic
Center is planning to form a study group in
January 2009. By exchanging the reading materials
and answering questions via group discussion,
we can become the CGFM at lowest cost.

Nov. 30, 2009.
1. I am already a CGFM.
2. I will take the exam if the total cost is
a. $412 (no CPE credit)
b. $787 (with 48 CPE credit)
3. I am not interested in taking the AGA CGFM

Planning Session Was a SUCCESS!!!
Last May 31, 2009, the Board of Officers conducted a
planningsession at the residence of President-elect
Mario Ignacio. The five hour meeting covered several
topics like proposed amendments to the Chapter's
By-Laws, developed plans to accomplish the Chapter
Recognition Program, established training schdedule
for the year, established schedules for regular board
meeting and membership meeting, proposed plans
to increase membership and set the schedule for the
Chapter's Annual Professional Development
Conference as well as the proposed topics.
First Luncheon Meeting on July 15, 2009
Our first luncheon meeting will be held on
July 15, 2009 at Caltrans Buidling Ground Floor
Room 1.040B 100 S. Main St. Los Angeles. Our

Annual PDC Scheduled on Sept 16, 2009
Last June 11, 2009, the Board of Officers approved
the holding of the annual PDC on Sept. 16, 2009 at
The Center At Cathedral Plaza. Details of the event
will be communicated to all members and interested
participants within the next months. The President
urges everyone to mark this date on their calendar.
Board of Officers Met Rushmore Cervantes
Board of Officers met with Rushmore Cervantes, Interim Controller
of the City of Los Angeles on May 28, 2009. Mr. Cervantes accepted
the invitation of the Board to be one of its advisers. During the
meeting, President Vicky Santiago outlined her proposed program
and goals for FY 09-10.Mr. Cervantes suggested that the chapter
should help redirect the role of accountants in the City. The chapter
should provide more training to the accountants that will prepare
them for the new challenge.
Joint Incoming and Outgoing Board of Officers Meeting
Incoming Board of Officers held its joint meeting with the Outgoing
Board of Officers last May 12, 2009. Incoming President Vicky Santiago
discussed her plans for the fiscal year. Foremost is the Annual
Professional Development Conference which is tentatively set on
Sept. 16 or Sept. 23, 2009. The Planning Committee will hold a
meeting on May 31, 2009 to discuss the details.
Members and guests attended the annual PDC held on
October 1, 2009. The event was very successful.
Speakers shared their knowledge and
experiences on the topics assigned to them. The
chapter was fortunate to have Billy Moorehead, AGA
National President as one of the speakers and
contributed discussion on the several topics.
